Emergency Medicine

Dr Rosalind O'Shaughnessy is an Accident and Emergency Consultant at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in central London and a Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. With over twenty-five years' experience in emergency care, her clinical work is grounded in reflective practice, ethical reasoning, and attention to how decisions are made under pressure.

She leads the department's Clinical Governance educational meetings, creating a supportive space in which clinical judgement, ethics, and patient stories are examined with the aim of improving care and clinician wellbeing. Alongside this, she established an Emergency Department writers' group and instigated a new Clinical Fellow post with a special interest in Medical Humanities and Ethics. She has also served for many years as Medical Director for the Resuscitation Council's Advanced Life Support courses, and created Heartache, a public-facing film promoting hands-only CPR.

Rosalind has a longstanding commitment to supporting doctors from overseas and has worked for over eight years as Trust Tutor for non-training grade doctors, developing a 'Portfolio Pathway' rotational programme for those pursuing consultant roles outside standard training routes. She also works as a Consultant Appraiser for the NHS and the independent sector.

She read Mathematics and Philosophy at Somerville College, Oxford, before studying medicine. She received her M.D. from UCLA in Los Angeles, where she worked across several hospitals for eight years, before returning to the UK to complete her training in Emergency Medicine.
